Today in class we will be using Hopscotch on the iPads. It is very similar to Scratch, but doesn't do quite as much.

See if you can program a Sprite to draw the following:
- a square
- an equilateral triangle
- the first letter in your name

Hints: The angles in a square are 90 degrees.

An
equilateral triangle has angles of 60 degrees.

December 16, 2013: Holiday Greetings - Grades 5,6,7

Today in class your assignment is to create an interactive holiday greeting card. Here is an example I created:

Happy Holidays Acadecap

You may want to make your own new Sprites, or use some of the holiday themed Sprites and Backdrops recently provided by Scratch. However, to have them appear, you may need to clear your browser's history. This was a problem I had, but I found the answer in this post:

Holiday Images Not Working

I would like to show your work at the Acadecap Holiday Extravaganza, so please "Share" it in Scratch, and email me a link to the project.

December 9, 2013 - End of year Challenge

If you would like to have a Scratch program on display at the school's holiday concert (which is Friday December 20, 2013), come prepared to next week's class with something "Shared" on Scratch. If possible, also send me an email with a link to the project -- that way I am sure to be able to find it.

Projects must meet the following criteria:
    - all grammar correct
    - appropriate for all ages
    - work properly on-line: including having instructions of what to do on the project page

Need an idea? Consider one of the following:
    - spruce up a project we have already done in class (such as your Silly Story)
    - make an interactive Holiday Greeting Card - see the Hour of Code Scratch Tutorial for help

Today we are going to learn how to make our own Sprites (and Backdrops) in Scratch. If you miss today's class, you can watch all the videos under "Paint Editor Tips" on the Scratch Help page to show you what do do (Scratch Help Videos). Don't be afraid to experiment!

We are going to create a Sprite using vector graphics.

We will see how many of these we can learn:
- the difference between a bitmap and a vector graphic
- how to draw vector shapes - circle, rectangle
- how to select an image
- how to undo a mistake

- how to reshape - and add and delete control points
- how to fill (watch out that your image must be closed!)

- how to draw freehand shapes (with the pencil)
- how to smooth freehand shapes
- how to group different parts of a drawing together, and then un-group
- how to use layers
- how to change the line width
- how to flip and image
- how to zoom in and out
- how to copy part of an image

- how to delete in vector mode
- different ways to select the colour - grid, continuous, dropper
