Today we will keep working on our bug fixes. Here is another one to try, for those who finish the first four (see last week's post).

Bug Number Five - Lists

Also, for students in Grade 5-6-7, we will be evaluating our Silly Story projects this week. I have my evaluations complete, but you need to do your own "code inspection"

Today we are going to practise our bug fixing (that's computer science talk for finding and solving errors in our programs).

Here are some examples for you to try out:

Bug Number One - Rotation

Bug Number Two - Growing Cat

Bug Number Three - Music

Bug Number Four - Left/Right

To test your hypothesis of what the problem is, log in to Scratch at "remix" the project so you can edit it and try things

Grade 5-6-7 Project -- New Due date, final instructions

11/14/2013

Once you have found your comments, here's what you do next:

1. Read the comments and do your best to fix bugs and make your program event better.
2. Don't forget to be a little creative -- maybe something like add a stage backdrop, more text to your story, whatever strikes your fancy.
3. Proof read your words for correct spelling and grammar (or show your work to mom or dad and have them help you spot any mistakes).

Project Due Date: Monday, November 18, 2013, at the end of Computer Science class.

There will be a small amount of time in class to make final adjustments.

How to Look in your Scratch Studio and find comments

11/14/2013

To read the comments I have written about your Scratch projects, you need to find the "remix" program I created that has the comments in it. Here are the steps:
  1. Login to Scratch
  2. In the top right corner, just to the left of your Scratch user name, there is a picture of a folder with an "S" on it. Click on this folder.
  3. You will now see a listing of all your projects, under the title "My Stuff".
  4. On the left hand side, in the menu, click on "My Studios"
  5. You should now see your studio, called something like "AcadecapXX for Mme Sarah" listed. Click on your studio name.
  6. You will then see all the projects in your studio. There is one with the same name as your original project, but it has the word "remix" in the title. Click on this project.
  7. This shows you the project page for the remix project. In the upper right corner, press on the "See Inside" button.
  8. You should now see all the blocks that make up your project. There are also yellow rectangles with words in them, these are my comments.
  9. Sometimes, the comment rectangles are collapsed (made small). To make them bigger to read all the comments, press on the little grey triangle in the top left corner of the yellow rectangle.
  10. Also, sometimes comments overlap each other. To read overlapping comments, use that same little triangle to expand (make bigger) or collapse (make smaller) the comments as needed.
  11. For a few students, there are also comments from me on the project page of the remix project.

November 4, 2013 Lesson Plan

Today in class we will create a Scratch program that tells a funny story. We will be using the following new blocks:
- "ask and wait" (in Sensing), with its partner "answer"
-  "set (variable) to (value)" (in Data)
 - "insert (value) at (location)" (in List)
- "join (hello, world)" (in Operators)

If we have time, we will also learn how to create out own blocks in "More Blocks"

To see my example, go to:

Just for Mme Annie's Class:

If you are in Mme Annie's class (or are in grade 7), this completed program, titled "Silly Stories" must be handed in for marking (to be included as part of your grade for report cards).

Program requirements:
- asks user for at least 3 animals (and store them in a List)
- asks user for one place (and store it in a Variable)
- asks user for one action (and store it in a Variable)
- tells the story using the words collected (using the Join block within "Say for X seconds")
- properly initializes variables and lists so the program may run again

- have Instructions and Notes and Credits completed on the project page
- Marks for creativity, originality and neatness of the project will also assigned
- Don't forget to check the grammar in your work: words spelled correctly, proper capitalization, etc.
- When your program is completed and you want it to be marked, please put "This project is complete" in the "Notes and Credits" section of the Project Page.

How to hand in your program:
- Share your program on Scratch (on-line version)
- Make sure you have created a Studio called "Acadecap?? for Mme Sarah" (replace the ?? with your initials). Invite me (BlueHeron) as a curator to the gallery.
- From the "My Stuff" page (click on folder in upper right), use the "Add To" button to put it in your gallery.

- Don't forget to add "This project is complete" to project notes so I know you are actually finished!
- Program is due on Wednesday November 13, 2013, at 9:00 am. (Note their is no Computer Science class next week due to the PD day).
